The National Teaching Council, NTC says the over 6,000 teachers who failed the licensure exams are not cut out for the teaching profession.

But the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT is upset and has called on NTC to convene a national dialogue on the mass failure instead of accusing the teachers.

Over seven thousand teachers sat for the licensure exams and over one thousand teachers passed while in excess of six thousand failed the exams.

These teachers who failed the exams according to the national teaching council have written the exams more than 5 to 10 times.

The NTC again indicated that 5 teachers had their results cancelled for engaging in examination malpractices.

The NTC said the six thousand affected teachers have up to November to re-write the exams or forfeit it.

Its executive director Dr Christian Addai Poku said the teachers who failed are not cut out for the teaching profession.

He pointed out, the affected teachers could seek remarking.

However, the General Secretary of Ghana’s national association of teachers, GNAT Thomas Musah Tanko who is a key stakeholder in the licensure exams rather asked NTC to stop criticising the teachers who failed the exams.

He proposed a national dialogue to address the issues occurring.
