The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has issued a 3-month ultimatum to private developers to secure building permits before continuing with their construction projects.

Failure to do so, according to the assembly, will leave it with no option to apply legal sanctions to defaulters.

Addressing assembly members and heads of departments of the assembly during the first ordinary assembly meeting of the fourth session of the second assembly, Municipal Chief Executive of Oforikom, Abraham Antwi said the move forms part of a revenue mobilization drive to meet their revenue target this year.

The Assembly’s revenue inflows for the 2022 fiscal year were below expectations. The total revenue (internally generate funds and other statutory funds) received at the end of the year amounted to 12.7 million Ghana cedis representing 54.8 per cent of the revenue target.

The MCE also noted, going forward the assembly will partner with the Ghana Revenue Authority to handle the collection of property rates using the unified common property rate platform for accountability and transparency purposes.
