The Director of Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana, Daniel Mbabugri Akgri, has called on the government to intensify innovative measures that would not only ensure a clean environment but also find lasting solutions to the fight against sanitation and hygiene in the country.
Speaking during the second edition of the organisation’s Sanitation Excellence Awards, she emphasized that sanitation has not been significantly improving even though the government and other organisations made efforts.
The sector has witnessed insignificant change, which speaks volumes that more needs to be done in the area of sanitation and hygiene.

In regards to all these failed approaches, Damak Sanitation Health Watch Ghana, in collaboration with the International Direct Project (IDP) from Switzerland, also referred to as “DAMAK-IDP,” has adopted a new innovative technology using digital address system codes to determine the contributions, performance of the communities, and electoral areas.
Additionally, our media reporters also help in monitoring the performance of the selected areas in the blind eye of Assembly Members and other selected institutions.
Mr. Daniel Mbabugri explained further that the friendly nature of the system helps determine the percentage score mark of every electoral area from 1-100.
This, he said, will ensure transparency and genuinely in selecting winners not based on merit but on their performance and contributions.
In 2023, 5 assembly members and 5 other organisations were given awards to that effect. However, the number has been increased from 10 to 16 who received awards following their contributions toward promoting a clean and safe environment in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing awardees, the Director of International Direct Project (IDP), Pierre P. Petitjean, said that sanitation is key in human life, and when the earth is polluted as a result of environmental pollution, it may have dire consequences on the lives of our children and the next generation to come when immediate measures fail to facilitate to mitigate the sanitation challenge.
He, however, tasked the awardees and sundry to rally behind Damak Sanitation Health Watch—Ghana so that together they can promote a better environment for future generations.
