Management of the Ghana Bauxite Company Limited at Awaso in the Western North Region has now taken over by a Ghanaian consortium.
The Ghanaian consortium replaces Bosai Minerals Group from China which had managed the company from February 2010 to February 2022.
It is the first time in the history of the country that a Ghanaian Consortium has taken over the management of the company in its 80 years run.
The new Ghanaian Consortium, OPCL, now jointly owns the Ghana Bauxite Company Limited[ GBC] with the government , whose interest is held by the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation [ GIADEC].
Sources gathered by our news team indicated that, the new development would be a sign of relief for workers of the Ghana Bauxite Company Limited and the people of Awaso who were in limbo over the future of the company after officials from Bosai Minerals Group decided to leave.
At a ceremony to officially introduce the new owners to the chiefs and people of Sefwi Ahwiaso, Sefwi Bekwai and Awaso, the Chief executive Officer of GIADEC, Michael Ansah, said the new development is positive.
He encouraged Ghanaian companies to invest in Aluminium production in the country.
He said they are in discussion with the Ghana Railway Company to develop Western Rail Line in the area.
