The eight female students of Chiana Senior High school who were sacked after insulting president Akufo-Addo have thanked the president for intervening in their matter.
The Ghana Education Service dismissed the eight students for insulting the President in a video that went viral late last year.
The students were suspended pending investigations into the matter but yesterday news were rife the students have been dismissed sparking mixed reactions
The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today directed the Ministry of Education to look at other means of punishing the students rather than dismissing them.
Huzaimah Hamidu Daabu who spoke on behalf of her colleagues said, they are willing to undertake any punishment which replaces their dismissal as far as they will get back to school and continue with their education.
Meanwhile the Ghana Education Service has issued a statement which says the affected students dismissal was based on a recommendation from the school’s disciplinary committee.
The management of GES acting upon the president’s directive, referred the matter to the school’s disciplinary committee to explore alternative sanctions other than dismissal .
The affected students are directed to report to the headmistress of Chiana shs further directions .
The management of GES has also urged stakeholders to ensure the students are reformed in the best possible way.
