About 20 communities in the Wassa Amenfi East constituency in the Western Region are set to experience reliable electricity and telecommunications networks, thanks to the efforts of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah.
The MP is currently overseeing an ongoing rural electrification project aiming to bring light and hope to every corner in Amenfi East before the year’s Christmas festivities.
The rural electrification project was initially started in 2016 by the then MP, Hon. Kwasi Oppong Fosu, under the erstwhile President John Dramani Mahama’s first term, but was halted due to a change in government after the 2016 general election.
The current Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, was the district chief executive at the time.
But, for the past 8 years, the communities have struggled with darkness, but thanks to Hon. Nicholas Amankwa and the Ministry of Energy under the current government, the project has gained momentum.

Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, affectionately known as “Home Boy”, has been instrumental in lobbying for the continuation of the electricity extension to connect the underserved communities within his constituency.
In 2024, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah was vocal on the floor of Parliament, posing some critical questions to the Energy Ministry on plans to connect communities to the national grid, focusing on underserved areas and following up with multiple letters.
It’s worth noting that the MP’s efforts have paid off, with the contract now awarded to Kwablisher Company to complete the remaining rural electrification project abandoned for years.
Notable communities set to benefit include Aboaboso, KTK, Saa Ahwiam, Abeneso, Beposo, Chiefkrom, Mangoase, Nyametease, and several others.
Currently, all necessary materials for the project have arrived in Wassa Akropong, Amenfi East, and electrification works are progressing.
Some community members in Wassa Amenfi East have repeatedly voiced their frustration over being cut off from the national electricity grid.
They’ve called on authorities to intervene, citing the impact on businesses that rely on power and students who struggle to study at night without lighting.
However, residents in Bowdie-Dompim, one of the neglected communities, say the recent lighting of their area through the effort of the MP has brought immense joy to them, praising the MP’s commitment to their well-being.
Additionally, an MTN mast has been installed for telecommunications connectivity to ensure stable internet and network services.

Hon. Nicholas Amankwah led the commissioning of the MTN mast at Wassa Powuako on December 2nd, bringing telecommunications networks to deprived communities in Amenfi East.
The mast will cover 10-15km, connecting
Powuako, Abenabena, Agyakuso, Nkyireso, Dompoase, Babianiha, Charles Krom, and other communities, enhancing internet and mobile connectivity.
Speaking to Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, Hon. Amankwah reiterated his dedication to addressing Wassa Amenfi East’s needs.
He urged communities awaiting his aid to remain patient, assuring them he’s working tirelessly to fulfil his parliamentary mandates to benefit every community within his constituency.
