Road Transport Union (GPRTU), had a crunch meeting today with the transport ministry to dialogue possible transport fares reduction.
The transport operators promised after the meeting to announce new transport fares should the government agree to further reduce the prices on petroleum products at the pump.
The move comes after a public backlash against the ministry of transport and transport operators.
Fuel prices have gone down significantly yet the transport operators and other driver unions have remained obstinate to reduce transport fares.
National Chairman for Ghana Private Nana Nimako Bresiama addressing the media in Accra has maintained that the transport fares will be considered if the government attempts to further reduce the prices of petroleum products at the pump.
“we have received serveral insults from Ghanaians for not reduce the transport fares but we had the current increment after a mutual agreement with the president and the minister when selling a litre of diesel at pump ghs 15.99 and petrol also at ghs13.99 so Ghanaian should exercise patience till the the right time a arrive for adjustment”.
Meanwhile the minister for transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, expressed fret over how the government have been vilified over the situation.
He assured Ghanaians the transport fares reduction will see light soon.
