Road transport operators including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have announced a 15.3 percent reduction in fares.

The new fares will take effect from Monday, December 19 and will cover shared taxis, intra-city and intercity transport as well as haulage.

This announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday, December 16.

The statement was issued following a crunch meeting with stakeholders after calls heightened for the downward review of fares due to the recent marginal reduction in prices of petroleum products.

The last increment in fares was by 19 percent but the stakeholders said the percentage of decrease considered the plight of drivers, commuters and the general public.

“We kindly request all commercial transport operators to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals,” the joint statement said.

“We further request all operators, commuters and the general public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.”
