Members of the Teachers and Education Workers Union, TEWU have threatened to withdraw their services on April 15

The Union is demanding the 600 cedis professional and skills development allowance be paid to its members.

In 2020, TEWU demanded the payment of professional and skills development allowance.

The Education Ministry after a series of engagements with TEWU agreed that 600 cedis be paid to each member annually.

That amount was to be paid end of November each year.

But General Secretary of TEWU Mark Korankye says the government has reneged on its promise.

He said what is most disturbing is the comment by the President during the State of the Nation address that the amount has been paid

He also asked the government to pay the amount together with the arrears.

The Union has meanwhile petitioned the National Labour Commission about their impending strike.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of NLC Ofoso Asamoah says the four-day notice of a strike was not acceptable.

He noted both TEWU and the government failed to report back to the Commission after it directed them to resolve the impasse last year.
