The caterers of the school feeding program say they struggle to provide a balanced meal for the students as food prices rise.

Caterers of the School Feeding Program in the Ashanti Region demand payment of three teams’ arrears owed by the government.

In an exclusive interview with Uniquenewsgh  News, the aggrieved caterers stated that they have given the Secretariat of the Ghana School Feeding Programme a two-day deadline, beginning today, Thursday, June 20th, to Friday, June 21st, 2024, to pay their arrears or withdraw service to express their displeasure at the government.

The leaders complained bitterly that caterers are struggling to provide a balanced meal to students due to food price increases, and the government has also refused to pay them for almost a year now.

We are calling on the government to pay us as soon as possible to be able to buy more food commodities to feed the pupils.

According to them, the Secretariat requested that they pre-finance the feeding of the pupils while payment would be made to them at the end of the first term, but nothing changed.

They claimed that banks are pursuing them and that all attempts to persuade the government to intervene have failed.

They stated that the current 97 pesewas for a meal is insufficient and that it should be increased to 3 cedis to alleviate their burden, but the government has done nothing about it.

“If the government does not pay us before the close of Friday, we will all match up at the Jubilee House to collect our money from President Akufo Akufo. For almost three teams now without paying us, even one team, have you thought of how we feed the pupils? caterers lamented, “.
