Reimbursement to the caterers has been in arrears for months.
The Regional Minister in a rather rare move snubbed the caterers which infuriated the women
Simon Osei Mensah speaking in an interview uniquenewsgh news described the action of the caterers as illegal.
He said their presence at the regional coordinating council was illegal and a breach of protocol.
“The demonstration was unlawful, whether I was provoked or not I do not like what they did and I have said a million times, that I will not entertain illegalities I’m not here to pamper people to do illegalities”.
He added the petition was received yesterday by his special assistant and it will be forwarded to the president for responses.
Scores of caterers on the school feeding programme in the Ashanti region were left in a state of shock, when the Ashanti regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah snubbed them, on Monday.
The aggrieved traders had gone to the regional coordinating council to present a petition.
For weeks these caterers have been protesting for the release of payments which is almost a year in arrears, and an upward adjustment of the allocation fee, from 97 pesewas per head to ghs3
They have attributed the demand for adjustment to hikes in the prices of foodstuff.
On March 20, they besieged the regional school feeding secretariat, hoping to be reimbursed but that did not happen
On March 27, they were left with another disappointment.
A petition was to be presented to the regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah after weeks of no response from the central government
However, they were left disappointed when the minister snubbed them.
