The residents of Ankaase in the Fanteakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region have boycotted the Assembly members’ election scheduled for today, December 19, 2023.
The residents indicated that no development work had been done in the area for the past several years
The chief of Ankaase Barimah Ansah Sasraku Ofram II, speaking to the media, said he is in support of the residents because Asaman, Ankaase and Manpong cannot have one assemblyman. There have been several approaches requesting their electoral area, but not a single response from the leaders. ” We have sent letters to the MCE, the Electoral Commission, both District and Regional authorities and yet not a single response
“Despite repeated requests made to the local and regional authorities concerning our plea to have an electoral area in Ankaase have representatives from the area, not a single attempt has been made by authorities because basic civil amenities have not been developed in Ankaase
And we have decided not to vote anymore if our request is still not accepted,” he said.
“We have over 4,000 registered voters, and we are not voting anymore—not just in the Assembly member’s election but any election that comes our way, both parliamentary and presidential elections.
“Ankaase lacks a lot of development, such as roads and street lights, and a lot of Ankaase town roads were left for over 3 to 4 years without watering.
“We called the contractor to find out the cause, and he said the government has not settled him with Peny, and for that matter, he is not coming on-site, so we don’t know why we should vote during an election.”.
