The Ghana medical Association has hinted on a demand to government to peg the salaries and fuel allowances of medical Doctors in Ghana to the US Dolar in their next negotiations so their salaries can maintain its value considering the current economic situation in the country.
The GMA made this and many revelations at the just ended 64th Annual general conference of the Association in Bolgatanga.
In a communique issued at the end of the 64th annual general conference of the Ghana medical Association held in Bolgatanga, the GMA has proposed several recommendations and solutions to government to address including poor working conditions of Doctors, Accelerated emigration of doctors to well developed countries, conflicts and instability, galamsey in Ghana and many others.
The president of GMA, Dr. Frank Serebour who addressed the media in Bolgatanga has hinted of a demand by the Association to ask for the pegging of their salaries to the US dollar.
He said the GMA is also appealing to Medical Doctors to accept postings to the undeserved areas in Ghana to breach the gap of doctors between the North and the south.
The upper east region currently has only 30 doctors actively providing service to the over 1.3 million population with an estimated Doctor to population ratio of 1 to 43,000 while about 81% of all doctors are in Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Northern and Volta regions.
