The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former Dome-Kwabenya Lawmaker Sarah Adwoa Safo to its disciplinary committee for violating a recent directive barring members from discussing matters that create disaffection within the party in the media.

A statement issued by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said that following the directives issued to all members of the New Patriotic Party to cease discussions on matters that create disaffection within the party in the media, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo’s comments in the media, particularly on the Pulse Show of Joy News, are a clear contravention of the directive issued to all NPP members.

“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism and disaffection in the media and other related platforms. Her actions are not only in disregard of this directive but also undermine the Party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.

“As a former Member of Parliament, Former Deputy Majority Leader and Former Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, she was expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty and unity that have always defined our great party. Her failure to do so, not only reflects poorly on her but also in contravention of Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution, which, amongst others, enjoins us to promote and defend the good name of the Party.

“In breach of the above provision of the Party’s constitution and the directives issued earlier, Hon Sarah Adwoa Sarfo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the Party for further action,” Mr Frimpong wrote.

Adwoa Safo had said among other things that the committee formed by the NPP to probe why the party lost the elections was bogus. She also warned the committee against heaping the blame on the presidential candidate in the 2024 elections Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Asked whether she would contest again as a lawmaker in the constituency, while speaking on Joy News on Thursday, March 20, she said, “What I will say is, considering the issues I have been through and considering how I have been treated in the constituency despite my devotion and sacrifices, despite my hard work, I don’t think so.

“I won’t. It will take my father to change my mind; I won’t. I have done 12 years, and I have left a good legacy in the constituency. I will not contest Dome-Kwabenya; I am moving forward, and I am looking at bigger things.”

She added, “I am looking at speakership; yes, I am looking at more challenging opportunities.”

Adwoa Safo further said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will bring former Vice President and former Presidential Candidate of the NPP in the 2024 general elections Dr Mahamudu Bawumia back in the 2028 general elections.

She says that Dr Bawumia is marketed and deserves to be president because he is a hardworking person.

“We are bringing Bawumia back,” she said on Joy News on Thursday, March 20.

“Dr Bawumia is the best person; he has been marketed, and we will market him; every person deserves a second chance,” she said.

She stressed, “Nobody should come and tell us that we shouldn’t bring Dr Bawumia. Nobody is God. We had time for Nana Akufo-Addo, and we will have time for Dr Bawumia.”
