Government is to enrol on to the NHIS children suffering from kidney diseases and need dialysis treatment.
Vice president dr mahamudu bawumia who announced this request ghanaians to be ready to pay more for the NHIS to cater for the treatment.
He was speaking at the 50th years of dialysis in Ghana.
Dr mahamudu bawumia expressed grave concern about the cost of dialysis treatment in Ghana.
Currently the cost of treatment per session within week is more than one thousand Ghana cedis.
Within a month is over 4,000 cedis while within a year is over 57,000 cedis.
Often times, patients have to do out of pocket payment which intends deplete their meagre earnings.
Commemorating the 50 years of dialysis in Ghana vice president dr mahamudu bawumia emphasised on enrolling children with kidney diseases on the NHIS.
He called for partnership with the private sector to begin manufacturing consumables for dialysis treatment.
Meanwhile ,President of the Ghana kidney association professor Sampson antwi lauded government commitment for provoding support for the treatment.
