The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed disappointment about the seeming silence of the National Peace Council when it comes to some issues that could impede the Peace in the country.
The party regrets that the Electoral Commission has taken what they describe as an entrenched position with regard to the ongoing limited registration exercise.
Speaking to the media on a sideline of the 2023 International Peace Daymark in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional director of inter-party and Civil Society Relations of the NDC, Mr. Mathew Ndjourkone noted that, the Peace Council has relented on its effort to ensure peace in the country.
“We, the political parties have raised some concerns about the ongoing limited voter registration exercise that a lot of people in the rural areas will be curtailed from registering due to the centralized system introduced by t, the EC, and instead of the Peace Council coming into it, they have kept mute on that”…he said.
He said, their concerns have become necessary due to the backlog the country has in terms of limited registration exercises because since 2021 the country has not been able to organize such exercises due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Njourkone stressed the silent attitude of the National Peace Council on some national issues that tend to jeopardize the country’s peace.
