Every pregnant woman desires to give birth to a baby with no deformities or health complications.
But to deliver and see your baby has no legs could be traumatizing moments for any young mother, especially when it is their first baby.
A baby girl born at Twifo Bonsaho in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of the central region has raised a talking point among the people in the area.
This baby girl was borne without legs by 18-year-old Grace Addobea.
According to the mother of this legless baby, during her pregnancy period, she received antenatal care at Wassa Ateiku Health Center.
In her ninth month, when she attended the antenatal, she was told that she didn’t have enough blood to enable her to have a safe delivery. Hence, they referred her to a Christian hospital, popularly known as “church,” also at Wassa Ateiku, where the doctor, after a medical assessment, told her that the baby was coming with its buttocks. Hence, they have to perform surgery to deliver the baby when her time is due for delivery.
Addobea recounted that, just three days later, she was delivered at home by a traditional birth attendant at their village.
Shockingly, she gave birth to a legless baby girl.
Since then, she has tried several times to kill the baby and herself because everybody in the community is doing evil to her and her family, but it took the intervention of her parents to stop her.
Grace Addobea dejectedly disclosed that Paa Kwasi, the man who was responsible for her pregnancy, had deserted her and the baby girl.
Addobea’s mother-in-law, Maame Effua Atta, who should serve as a source of motivation, also told her when she visited them that if she were the one who delivered Addobea, she would have killed the baby on arrival.
Father of Grace Adobea Opanin Emmanuel Lartey made a passionate appeal to NGOs, individuals, government, religious groups, and all and sundry to come to their aid to ensure that this wonderful baby survives.
