The Minority in Parliament has said it will embark on another protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, on July 30, 2024, for allegedly engaging in wasteful spending on the new Head Office building.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, said the Governor has refused to answer questions on the latest cost of the building.

“Today the office is being constructed at 250 million dollars’’ he alleged.

He added that a piece of land that used to host the bank’s clinic has been re-assigned to the governor, and he has refused to give details.

“The central bank should be held accountable,” Mr Ayariga stated.

He said they had written to the police, and he would meet them in the afternoon.

In October 2023, the Minority embarked on a street protest demanding the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.

They accused the Governor of spearheading the losses incurred by the BoG in 2022 and 2023.

The Minority also kicked against the construction of a new headquarters for the central bank.

That demand was not granted, so Mahama Ayariga stressed that the group would embark on another protest on July 30.

He maintained that the Governor; his deputies and the Board have run down the central bank and must resign.
