On Wednesday, 13th April 2023 there was a press release that indicates that Asantehemaa’s court stops some Kejetia traders from holding elections for the second time.
According to the release, “Asantehemaa’s Court at Manhyia Palace has once again struck down a move by some traders at the Kejetia new Market to form a new association”.
It recalled that some traders at the facility in October 2022 incur the wrath of the Asantehemaa following their decision to hold elections at the facility without the notice of Manhyia Palace.
The trading group, “Kumasi City Market Traders Union”, which was allegedly formed by one Nana Franko to oppose the current leadership appointed by the Asantehemaa was ordered to halt any elections in the facility with immediate effect.
The traders were hauled over to the Manhyia Palace for the second time after they reportedly ignored the Queen’s directive and began issuing Identity cards to members”.
The Deputy Chairman for Central Market Traders Nana Wiafe confirms to Akoma Fm/uniquenewsgh news.
But the General Secretary of Kumasi City Market Traders Union Mr Kwaku Adu-Gyemfi refuted the claims as falsehoods without merit.
According to him, there wasn’t any court proceeding held at Asantehemaa Palace nor any judgment passed.
He, therefore called on the public to disregard the press release because it is not a reliable source.
He said the union will proceed with their elections this coming Saturday to elect their executives to lead the union.
Speaking to the Akoma Fm Mempotemu social program in Kumasi with JB, he says” It is a deliberate attempt by some section of people within the market to prevent us from conducting our elections but we want to assure them that coming this Saturday we will elect our leaders”.
