22 persons including, 4 women, 1 child and 17 men confirmed dead in a gory accident between Kintampo and Babatokuma.

21 died at the spot and the other 1 at the hospital.

The Yendi-Kumasi bound bus, AS 4635-22, with 52 passengers onboard, crashed by side with a trailer truck GW 1127 P, carrying tiles.

Even though it is unclear what really happened, it seems the truck driver tried to swerve a stationary truck and the process entered the other lane which resulted in the near collision with the bus.

The dead are now deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue whilst the surviving victims are receiving treatment at the Kintampo Hospital.

Abou 18 victims of the Kintampo accident have been treated and charged while 4 others in critical condition, including a roughly two-old child have also been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

About 25 persons were rushed to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital early this morning 6 of whom were declared critically unstable and were being prepared for referral to more advanced hospitals for treatment. But the issue of bed unavailability led to the delay in referring them . The referral of the four this evening has been successful following the intervention of the Human Resource manager at the Bono East Regional Health Directorate.

Health workers at the facility told me only about three of the victims are still on admission and in stable condition.

Meanwhile, 7 of the dead, as at filling this report, were being processed for burial after their relatives identified them at the Mortuary.

The Grandbird Bus driver’s mate and the Articulated driver are currently with the Kintampo divisional police command assisting in investigations.
