It could best be described as a no-show in court when the case involving a police officer, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, accused of killing his girlfriend, was called at the Kumasi
Although the accused person, state, and defense counsel were present in court, the case had to be adjourned due to the absence of the jurors.
The jurors have been on strike over an unpaid allowance since March 2022.
The jury is made up of seven ordinary but educated persons who, subject to the directions of the judge, decide the guilt or innocence of an accused in a case tried upon indictment.
The family of the late Maadwoa appears unhappy with the development as they fear it may delay the case.
“We were hopeful the cross-examination would begin today but were disappointed when the case was adjourned because the jurors were absent. This is a bit worrying because it will cause delays.
We are just pleading with the jury to reconsider their decision to abandon their duties whilst also urging the government to pay them all the monies due them.” Nana Addo Barimah, family head of Late Maadwoa expressed
Inspector Ahmed Twumasi was arrested in April 2023 after he shot his girlfriend multiple times, leading to her death.
He will reappear in court on December 4.
However, until the jurors resume their services, the case will continue to be adjourned.
