INVEST IN NON GALAMSEY DISTRICTS TO ENSURE FOOD SECURITY

The District Director of Agric for Sekyere Afram Plains Daniel Kwabena Adjei has suggested to the Ministry of Agric to invest in agricultural sector in districts that are not galamsey prone.

He noted that most lands in districts where galamsey is rife have been destroyed hence affecting food cultivation which could have food security implications for the country

Fighting illegal mining has been the bane of the government as several interventions to reduce the menace are yet to yeild positive results

Several farm lands have been destroyed and taken over by illegal mining activities.

But in the view of the Sekyere Afram Plains District Director of Agric, Daniel Kwabena Adjei, there are some districts where illegal mining is not engaged there and the government should consider investing in such districts to make them the food hub for the country

As government struggles to import fertilizer in the midst of the Russia Ukraine War, calls have been made for the adoption of organic fertilizer to boost yields

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of Agric in partnership with a private company into production of organic fertilizer have conducted a demonstration on the use of organic fertilizer on a maize farm at the Sekyere Afram Plains Demonstration Farm at Drobonso.
