IGP Ousting Tape Saga: 3 Police Senior Officers Interdicted.

The Ghana police service has interdicted three senior police officers who are involved in a recently leaked audio tape which has become the subject of matter of investigation by parliament.

The leaked tape has damaged the reputation of the police service administration for the bad leadership role of the Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akufo Dampare.

The three people who have been interdicted by the police service are the commissioner of police (COP) Mr.George Alex Mensah confessed to the parliamentary committee investigating the leaked tape that the current IGP has mismanaged the police administration and also the worst IGP in his 31 years in active service, Superintendent Mr.Emmanuel Gyebi who Mr. Bugre Naabu said he had a telephone call with him and Superintendent Mr. George Lysander Asare who also said the Mr. Bugre Naabu has been awarded a contract to import police boot.

According to the police service statement, “The interdiction is to make way for disciplinary action proceedings into their conduct in line with police service investigations.

Background

On Tuesday, July 11, an audio recording allegedly involving a police commissioner and a politician discussing a plot to remove IGP George Dampare from office leaked into the media.

As a result, the Minority Caucus in Parliament demanded an investigation into the clandestine plot contained in the audio.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, eventually appointed a seven-person bi-partisan committee on July 25, 2023, to investigate the audio in question.

The Committee constitutes three members each from the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament, and a technical person.

It is expected to revert to the House on September 10.
