COP Alex Mensah, one of the top police officers implicated in the leaked tape allegedly plotting the ousting of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has said the truth in all the claims he has made against his former boss will be proven at the end of the investigation after an in-camera meeting of some witnesses with the committee Wednesday, September 13, 2023, COP Mensah told the media that “the truth will come out.” This was after he had been asked to give his expectations and comment on how proceedings have gone so far.

COP Alex Mensah, during his meeting with the committee, noted that the IGP is the worst manager in the history of the Police Service, having withheld promotions of junior officers, striking several deals with the former Northern region chair of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu, in whose office the said audio was recorded, among other allegations.

“I can tell you that for the 31 years that I have been in the Police Service, this IGP is the worst IGP,” COP Mensah told the committee on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, the IGP revealed at his meeting with the committee that he was not involved in anything that had to do with the recording of the leaked tape as alleged by the officers.

He said he had nothing to do with Mr. Bugri Naabu’s secret recording of the tape as he (Bugri Naabu) confirmed at the hearing.

During his address at the hearing Tuesday, September 12, the IGP refuted the allegations that he was part of a conspiracy to secretly record conversations of the three implicated police officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – and Bugri Naabu. Dr Dampare expressed his willingness to fully cooperate with the investigations to provide everything that would be required from him to ensure the truth behind the tape is unveiled.

He also reiterated his commitment to upholding the laws of the police service to maintain its integrity.
