The apex body of All Nigerian Associations in Ghana (ANC) has expressed concern over how young ladies and boys are being trafficked from neighbouring countries, including Nigeria, into Ghana.
The youngsters, according to the ANC, are brought into Ghana ignorantly based on giving them employment but end up engaging in illicit businesses such as prostitution and cybercrime in a lock-and-key environment.
They have thus petitioned the Ministry of National Security to partner with the ANC to clamp down on these activities to help protect the welfare of Nigerian nationals and the dignity of Ghana.
This came to light when ANC executives paid a courtesy visit to the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, at his office.
Below is their full statement:
COURTESY VISIT TO MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA: SPEECH OF COLLABORATION DELIVERED BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF ALL NIGERIAN COMMUNITY (ANC) CHIEF DR. BAYOR ALBERT ASAOLU ON TUESDAY, 9TH OF JULY, 2024.
Your Excellency, sir, the Honorable Minister of National Security and the entire staff. I greet you with warm compliments on behalf of the entire Nigerian Community in Ghana.
It is a rare privilege and opportunity accorded us to visit the most sacred government department of the Republic of Ghana.
The National Executive Body of ANC would never take it for granted, we appreciate this significant honour. It is also a great pleasure to introduce the delegates of the National Executive of ANC to your Office.
The All Nigerian Community (ANC) is the apex body of all Nigerian Associations in Ghana, bearing the utmost responsibility of representing Nigerians in Ghana.
The All Nigerian Community (ANC) in Ghana has been in existence for decades with a core mandate and responsibility to consolidate bilateral relations between Ghana and Nigeria and also to actualize peaceful co-existence between the two countries to protect the welfare of Nigerians and the dignity of Ghana and Nigeria.
Your Excellency, sir, we find it important to build strong synergy, familiarize our bodies with your office, establish cordial relationships with the commission on the relevant issues that concern Nigerians in Ghana, strengthen bilateral relations, and further identify areas of improving the diplomatic tie between the two countries.
We are here to present two vital issues bordering on the welfare and dignity of Nigeria and Ghana.
We believe today’s deliberation will bring a final solution to the challenges.
We therefore request your collaboration to address human trafficking from neighbouring countries, including Nigeria, into the country.
Intelligent reports revealed to us that some untouchable big madams and men are engaging in the modern slave trade bringing young ladies and boys to Ghana for illicit business such as prostitution and cyber-crime known as yahoo-yahoo.
The madams place satanic oaths on the girls preventing them from running away until they pay off while Nigerian boys are under lock and key environment embarking on nefarious and fraudulent activities without adequate meals.
Many under-age girls are brought into the country ignorantly on the pretext of giving them gainful employment but on getting to the country the madams/masters respectively lure them into prostitution and yahoo-yahoo. It was also discovered further that some boys were also deceived based on helping them secure admission into tertiary institutions in Ghana.
Your Excellency sir, it is incredible that the cartels perpetrate the evils with the support of some undisclosed government functionaries.
On several media outages, Nigerians have been stigmatized unnecessarily. Another national would commit a crime and Ghanaian media would jump to conclusions and tag it to Nigerian without due investigation.
We are appealing to the media to do a thorough investigation before publishing their materials.
We are committed to the peace of our host country.
We are closely monitoring the activities of all Nigerians through communal efforts. All community leaders have also taken it upon themselves to be sensitive in their jurisdiction in case of any acts of cultism and or violence.
Any Nigerian who is involved in cultism would be arrested and face the law of the land.
We are here today, Your Excellency, sir, to seek your intelligent advice on what we can do to eradicate or curtail these dangerous menaces in the society.
Many destinies and future mothers have been ruined and destroyed completely in the hands of ritualists and brutalists.
ANC Executives do not have the power nor resources to apprehend the situation but we are setting up a tripartite task force in conjunction with Nigeria’s High Commission and Host Government to arrest the culprits and protect the international image of both Countries, Ghana and Nigeria.
We wish therefore to solicit an absolute intervention and involvement of the National Security.
The crusade against illicit acts and menace is not limited to the Ghana government alone, we have officially informed the Nigerian government at all levels of the challenges facing us and the country.
We have advanced our plans to visit the Federal Government and State Governors to deliberate and come up with pragmatic solutions from home.
Once again, we shall forever be grateful for the grace and honour allotted to us for this historic meeting.
We are always available and also at your service whenever the need arises. We also pray to Almighty God to grant us a peaceful general election in December. Thank you, sir.
God bless the Republic of Ghana!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
God bless Africa
