Ghs30m as seed money for national rental assistance scheme -Dr. Bawumia

Government has rolled out a national rental assistance scheme, NRAS with a seed money of 30 million cedis to implement the project.

Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who launched the project assured of no political interference in the application process..

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia recalled his visit to the rent control office in July 2020 to acquaint himself of their operations.

Since then findings from the ministry of works and housing indicate that only 5 percent of ghanaians can acquire their own homes without any form of assistance.

While 60 percent will require support from the state to rent their a house and 35 percent will need direct additional support before renting a house.

These figures have compelleed government through the ministry of works and housing to roll out the national rental assistance scheme.

Under the scheme prospective applicant should be more than 18 years with valid ghana card and account numbers.

Applicants are expected to register with one hundred cedis out of which within 5 to 10 working days the implementers will visit the preferred house and pay directly to the land Lords.

Dr Mahamudu assured of no political interference in the application process and also emphasised on a new rent bill which is currently before Parliament.

Minister of works and housing Francis Asenso Boakye underscored a seed money of 30 million cedis to begin implementation.

The project is to be implemented in six regions which will include greater Accra, ashanti, western, Eastern, Bone and northern region and subsequently across all 16 regions.
