A renewed Chartered Analyst and Special Technology Advisor, Atta Junior Kuffour, envisions using the Ghana Card for ATM withdrawals and payments, aiming to create a cashless system despite challenges in bank and government cooperation.
Mr Atta Junior Kuffour, Chartered Analyst and Special Technology Advisor for the AfCFTA Policy Network, has set his sights on transforming the way Ghanaians interact with technology by leveraging the Ghana Card as an ATM card to withdraw cash.
He envisions the Ghana Card not just as an identification tool but as a means for everyday transactions, reshaping the way payments are made across the country.
Mr Kuffour’s vision is to enable Ghanaians to load cash directly onto their Ghana Cards, turning them into versatile payment tools. This shift will allow users to scan their cards for transactions at various outlets, making the process more efficient.
Additionally, the Ghana Card will be integrated into all ATM systems across the country.
“In partnership with VISA, plans are also underway to make the card usable at ATMs globally, putting Ghana on the map in terms of seamless international financial accessibility”.
To ensure that Ghanaians are well-equipped to use this technology, Mr. Kuffour plans to introduce digital brochures that guide users step-by-step on how to navigate the new systems.
These brochures will be available across platforms, offering clear instructions on using the Ghana Card for payments, financial management, and other services.
He had hoped that this would be a reality by the end of this year but it has been difficult for him to get the required cooperation from banks and government officials.
