Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, bashes education sector directors over 35% WASSCE performance by the over 48 senior high school graduates transitioning to the universities.

According to the Minister, under the able leadership of President Dr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term embarked on major reforms which the minister described it as macro reforms which includes , school inspections, curriculum development and other policies for the transformation of education in the country.

Speaking at the 2022 National Education Week which is an annual event of the Ministry of Education held in Accra, the minister said school inspections need to improvement in schools, we believe that getting the right curriculum which is approved by NaCCA will help our course and also believe that teacher licensure through NTC will bring improvements in teaching and learning but I want to see this initiatives find manifestation at the school and students level and ensuring that we can truly challenge ourselves that we can do better.

National Education Week (NEW), was instituted to review the sector performance.

This is a huge gathering of all stakeholders in education to assess the performance of the sector. One of the qualities of strong institution is they conduct an impartial self- retrospection on their programmes and this is why I consider this gathering a vital one

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum lamented that, when over 48 High schools in this country with a pass rate or high school transition to the universities rate of 1% is not acceptable. He however said , he was reading through his written speech and he saw that , in about two , three or five years time , we made have 50% of our High school graduates effectively transitioning to the universities which is not good minister said .

He added that , currently the pass rate is over 35% ,all heads of education must understand that we fallen short of the Trust imposed in us of the nation. When over 30% of our students pass the WASSCE and it increases to 35% then we celebrate it without telling the world that over 65% failed.
