Confusion in the Convention People’s Party seems to have stepped up a notch since the abrupt resignation of some members of the National Executive on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Some national executive members of the

, including the general secretary, Nana Yaa Jantuah, organizer, and others, have stepped down from their positions.

Their decisions come in the wake of a petition presented during the (NEC) meeting in yesterday.

Members of the party across all parts of the country petitioned the NEC to compel all the executives to either voluntarily resign or be removed over their alleged incompetence.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, some members of the party’s National Executive Council and the central committee described the resolution to dissolve the National Executive Council as unconstitutional.

Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party, Mathew Kwasi Obeng Boadu, who spoke to the media in Kumasi described the turn of events in the party as a disgrace.

Mr Obeng Boadu, who now represents the party at the Central Committee, disassociated himself and some members from the action.

“Our attention has been drawn to a press release by Kwame Nkrumah Botsio (Secretary, CPP Interim Council) to the effect that the National Executives have been removed by the National Executive Council (NEC) and that an Interim Council has been appointed to take over the affairs of the party.

As comrades of the party and elders, we witnessed all that happened at the said NEC meeting and wish to inform all members and sympathizers of the party that the said NEC meeting, which was supposed to have nullified the position of national officers, was carried out without due process as per Article 82 of the party’s constitution and therefore null and void.

The voluntary resignation of some national officers at the NEC meeting is purely personal and is therefore valid as such, he said.

He called on all party members and sympathizers to ignore the said press release.

He is of the view that the appointment of an interim council is purely the responsibility of the Council of Elders.
