A heated dispute has unfolded at the Obuasi Municipal Assembly following the appointment of two individuals, Perpetual Koomsom and Akayo Akumboa Ernest, to the same position as National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) director.
The controversy stems from alleged factional affiliations, with Koomsom believed to be associated with former Obuasi West parliamentary candidate Faustilove Appiah Kannin and Ernest reportedly linked to David Adama, a tentative MCE nominee.
When the two appointees reported to work at the municipal assembly on Monday morning, Ernest Akumboa Akayo, whose appointment was made public on Sunday, arrived first and locked Koomsom out, preventing her from entering the premises.
However, Ernest’s legitimacy has been questioned, with some sources suggesting he lacks an appointment letter and is relying on party executives to occupy the seat based on an alleged agreement that constituency organizers would take district NADMO seats after the NDC’s 2024 election win.
The confrontation drew the attention of authorities, who have reportedly referred the case to the region for resolution.
The situation remains tense, with both parties vying for control of the NADMO directorship at the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.
