Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, has revealed that the District Assemblies Common Fund, which was supposed to empower Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the development agenda, has bankrupted them.
He claims that since the fund was collateralized, Assemblies have found it difficult to initiate new projects or complete existing ones.
It has gotten to a moment where the Assemblies must to rely on loans before they can operationalize special duties.
“District chief executives borrow money to fuel their cars due to a lack of common fund disbursement to the various assemblies.”
Various assemblies are underdeveloped due to a lack of financial constraint as result of common fund collateralization.
He also stated that the NPP government does not prioritize the development of rural communities but always benefits from their votes.
“The NDC party is the only political party that is concerned about the welfare of the villagers”.
He was speaking at a community durbar in Anyinofi, Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, during his fourth day of campaigning in the Ashanti region.
