Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has submitted her official response to the petitions seeking her removal from office, meeting the deadline set by President John Dramani Mahama.

Sources close to the matter confirmed to uniquenewsgh news that the Chief Justice submitted her written response to both the President and the Council of State before the deadline expired on Monday, April 7, 2025. This follows a 10-working-day ultimatum given to her by the president after the petition was filed.

With her response officially submitted, the Council of State is now expected to begin its review process to determine whether a prima facie case exists to warrant further proceedings.

Although the specific allegations in the petitions have not been made public, they reportedly include claims of misconduct and abuse of office.

The Chief Justice’s response is believed to address these accusations.

This marks a crucial step in the constitutional process for addressing such petitions. Should the Council of State determine that a prima facie case exists, it may trigger additional investigative or parliamentary processes as outlined in the law.

Background:

The petitions against CJ Torkornoo were submitted earlier this year, prompting President Mahama to act in line with constitutional procedures.

As part of the process, he referred the matter to both the petitions’ subject and the Council of State.
