It has come to the public domain that the freezing of the Accounts of Former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah as part of an investigation into alleged issues related to corruption following the 1 million dollars and 300,000 euros allegedly stolen by her two house helps has revealed more money.
But An Economist and Lecturer at KsTU, Dr Addai Asante is recommending the passage of economic sabotage law to prosecute such individuals whose action of stashing monies at home sabotage the economy.
According to him, such a law which he proposes will help to retrieve monies kept in people’s rooms and will act as tools to pose a threat to those who want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Dr Addai Asante also lamented about the economic implications of such huge sums of money stashed at home by an individual which can lead the country into high inflation and low GDP growth.
Well information gathered by the OSP has it the Accounts frozen so far for Cecilia Dapaah are as follows with corresponding amounts
1Prudential Bank – $5million.
2 Prudential Bank – 48million Ghana cedis
3 SGSSB 1 – 1 million Ghana cedis
4 SGSSB 2 – 700,000 Ghana cedis.
The OSP is reported to have Identified other multiple accounts yet to be disclosed.
These amounts were also found in her house about two weeks ago when the OSP visited to conduct a search and after the search, the OSP disclosed substantial amounts of money were found.
The latest information has it that 590 million dollars and 2,730,000 cedis were found in her Akbelenkpe residence in Accra.
