Seven communities surrounding the University of Cape Coast have demonstrated against authorities of the university for what they say is an unlawful take over of their lands.
The communities Kwesi Pra, Apewosika, Kwaprow, Akotokyir, Ankaful, Kakumdo and Amamoma accused the vice chancellor of the university of intimidating and gagging chiefs in the 7 communities with lawsuits over their own lands which they think is unfair.
The residents led by their chiefs also accused the university and the VC for using the school lands for their business purposes and and in some instances even destroyed their ancestral tombs to make way for such projects.
Nana Ntsiful IV the “mputuhene” of Kwaprow who presented the petition on behalf of the 7 aggrived communities to the central regional minister outlined the following reasons for their peaceful demonstration.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Central regional minister, the budget officer for the Central Regional Coordinating Council Bless Kwame Darkey, assured the demonstrators that the regional minister and the Coordinating Council will take the issues up to the relevant authorities and address the impasse as soon as possible.
The group later presented a copy of the petition to the Central regional police commander and the university authorities.
They also called on the president, His Excellency Nana Auffo Addo, Osabarima Kwesi Atta, Paramount chief of Cape Coast and all well meaning Ghanaians to intervene and bring the VC to order.
Meanwhile the University’s Relations Officer, Major Retired Baah Bentum has debunked the allegation of the aggrieved chiefs and residents of mentioned communities.
