Tension is brewing in some parts of the North East region as youth hit the streets to protest attempts by the military to arrest a rival Bawku Naaba Alhaji Seidu Abagre who was recently enskined by the nayiri Naa Abdulai Mahahami Sheriga.
The youth in walewale and Nalerigu, blocked various entry points into the two respective communities burning lorry tyres to register their displeasure.
Uniquenewsgh sources on the ground say, the military were alleged to have stormed Nalerigu between 12 and 1am midnight in their bid to arrest the two chiefs.
According to the source, the military drove straight to the home of the rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre but could not find him in the house.
The military then began a search in the neighborhood which also failed.
This prompted the youth to mobilize to protect the palaces of the Nayiri and the embattled chief.
The youth in Nalerigu allegedly staged a protest burning lorry tyres and vandalizing the New Patriotic Party office in Nalerigu and the District police headquarters.
Less than 12 hours after the Nalerigu incident, youth in walewale also took to the street to burn lorry tyres blocking commuters traveling to and from tamale and bolga from accessing the Tamale-Bolga highway.
Sources within the youth groups blamed government and the military for the recent peaceful instability in nalerigu and walewale
They have warned they will use every available means to protest any attempt to arrest the Nayiri and the rival bawku chief.
As at the time of filing this report, police in Nalerigu and walewale were yet to comment on the matter.
