Farmers and owners of farm lands at Ahyiayem a suburb of Nkoranza in the Bono East region have raised red flag against the sale of their farmlands to foreigners by the Nkoranza Traditional authority led by the queen mother.
According to them they were not informed about the move and their crops have been destroyed in the process.
Ahyiayem is a farming community in the suburb of Nkoranza.
Residents of the community cultivate Plantain, Cassava, Cashew among others with Maize being predominant.
The farmers in the community bemoan the unfair treatment meted to them by the The Nkoranza Traditional authority led by the queen mother over confiscation of their farm lands which is adversely impacting their livelihood.
They expressed worry that, they were not informed by anyone for them to leave their lands but before they were aware their crops were destroyed with graders and later told that their lands now belong to foreigners and some other individual.
The people are therefore cautioning any person working on their farmland to leave before they forcefully reclaim their lands.
Furthermore they have placed a curse on the lands as a caution to the private individuals to leave their farmlands.
The Dikro of Ahyiayem, Nana Agyei Poku, who is also an affected farmer affirms the hardship that the situation has imposed on him and his people.
The affected farmers and land owners are therefore using the media platform to call on government and appropriate authorities to intervene in order not for them to become miserable in life.
The unit Committee chairman for Ahyiayem electoral area, Bismarck Agyei Poku, said the community is the largest producer of maize in the Bono East region and that they will not sit unconcerned to be rendered poor.
