The Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command has arrested 19-year-old Shadrack Kwame Gyamfi for allegedly murdering a 57-year-old farmer, Adwoa Attaa, at Assin Dompim in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.
The deceased’s body was discovered in her room yesterday around 5 p.m., with visible signs of assault, including blood stains on her face, bruises on her neck, and other indications of a violent struggle, suggesting a forced attack.
The police, led by District Crime Officer ASP Rosemond Duncan, upon hearing the information, swiftly moved to the scene to initiate an investigation into the matter, which led to the arrest of the suspect, who is reportedly the nephew of the deceased.
The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he killed the woman after she refused to give him GH¢100 to buy food. He admitted to dragging her into the room and strangling her to cover up the act.
The deceased’s daughter, Adwoa Achiamaa, recounted that she saw the suspect in her mother’s room. Her mother had been complaining about missing money, and upon seeing the suspect, she locked the door and called for help to alert neighbours.
While waiting, the suspect allegedly broke a window and fled. Upon entering the room, they discovered the deceased had been strangled to death.
