HIV/AIDS remains a significant public health challenge in Ghana, Africa, and globally. While progress has been made in recent years, it is essential to address the impact of the virus effectively.

In 2024, the Ghana Aids Commission estimated that the 2023 national adult HIV prevalence in Ghana was estimated at 1.53%, with approximately 334,095 people living with HIV. This includes 316,545 adults (94.7%) and 17,550 children (5.3%).

But when it comes to the Ashanti region, Asokwa Municipality leads in HIV prevalence, so far as the 2024 HIV/AIDS report is concerned.

According to the Ashanti Regional Technical Coordinator, Ghana AIDS Commission, Madam Olivia Graham, the Asokwa municipality’s prevalence of the surge is due to a large population index.

Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly recorded the highest number of HIV/AIDS infections in the year 2023, according to the Ghana AIDS Commission report.
