A land dispute involving sand-winning activities has sparked tensions in Asiaw, a farming community in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality, Eastern Region. Local farmers allege that handguards forcibly evicted them from their farmlands, leading to brutality against local youth.

At a press conference, farmers expressed outrage over allegations that sand-winning contractors Togbe Agar Sermaglo and Samuel Atsu Forson Alanyo confiscated their farmlands and destroyed 17,000 acres of crops, including pineapple, palm fruits, and cassava.

The farmers also alleged that the contractors threatened their lives with the help of national security operatives.

The affected farmers are seeking immediate intervention from local authorities to resolve the dispute and protect their rights, stressing that their livelihoods depend on the land.
