The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has threatened illegal miners in the region, giving them a 14-day ultimatum to vacate their sites.

At a press engagement today, he said the directive includes those mining in forest reserves, water bodies, and other prohibited areas.

He said an illegal mining fighting team will be deployed to the sites to flush out non-compliant miners and enforce this order.

Dr Amoakohene also emphasized the importance of collaboration with neighbouring regions, particularly those sharing river tributaries, to ensure a successful fight.

He said his efforts aim to support the president’s vision to preserve the nation’s forest reserves and water bodies.

The minister also indicated that about 618 stalled projects in the region have been compiled and is doing his best to ensure work resumes.

He said some of the projects were being funded by the District Assembly Common Fund, GETFund, GNPC, and other state institutions.

Dr Amoakohene said he will be working towards meeting with all these founded state institutions and reminding them about the project and the need to intervene to ensure its completion.
