The Ashanti South police command has arrested 25-year-old Yussif Mohammed for possessing two hundred and seven (207) rounds of assorted ammunition and other items.
The suspect was said to be carrying a backpack containing the ammunition.
The suspect was arrested near the Asankare Police Barrier with the assistance of some informants.
At a press conference on Monday, addressed by the deputy regional commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cephas Arthur said, “On-the-spot investigation revealed that the suspect was on board an Accra-bound passenger bus from the Kumasi direction when the luggage, a backpack, fell from the bus. The attention of the police who were on duty close by was drawn to it, and they apprehended the 25-year-old man who claimed ownership of the said backpack.”
Other items found on the suspect included 2 empty CZ magazines, 1 empty G3 magazine, and two G3 magazines loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition each.
Others also included one round of BB ammunition, 35 rounds of CZ ammunition, 42 AK-47 ammunition, and 16 rounds of redheaded G3 ammunition.
A quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 1 bulletproof vest, 2 black jackets, 1 green jacket, and 1 crash helmet.
Two military uniforms were also uncovered.
