Asantehemaa calls to halt upcoming Kumasi City Market Traders Union election

Information emanated from Manhyia palace indicates that the queenmother of Ashanti Kingdom Nana Konadu Yiadom ll has ordered to halt upcoming Kumasi City Market Traders’ Union election scheduled for 26th October.

Members of the City Market Traders Union in their quest to institute structural stance of the market entity has scheduled for an upcoming election to select leaders who could man the affairs of market following the registration of more than 7000 people for the election. The date for the election which had been scheduled for 26th October, 2022 had received several oppositions from self imposed leaders of various associations.

Speaking to Nana Konadu Yiadom who is Baamuhemaa at Asantehemaa palace in an interview with uniquenewsgh.com ,she indicates that the Kumasi City Market owned by the queen mother whilst the market has had various commodities queen mothers steering that affairs of the entire market, therefore no need for elections to elect executives to supercede the powers of the Asantehemaa.

Nana Konadu Yiadom reiterated that if the traders encounter any challenges they should liaise with the representatives of Asantehemaa for resolution.

“Asantehemaa is the sole custodian of all market in the Asante region including Kumasi City Market,so no other institutions can sanction elections in the market without the awareness of Manhyia palace ,”Nana Konadu Yiadom, Baamuhemaa stated.
