The Municipal Chief Executive of Amenfi East, Mr Frederick Korankye, has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Ernest Frimpong, has been invited by the Police for questioning.
He said Mr Frimpong has been reporting to the police since yesterday, June 11, 2024.
According to Mr Korankye, when the video became public, he reported the matter to the Municipal Commander of Police for the necessary action.
“He is with the police now, they have taken his statement,” Mr Korankye, also the head of security, said on Accra-based Joy FM.
He described the statements attributed to Mr Frimpong as “unfortunate.”
It would be recalled that Mr Frimpong was seen and heard in a video that has gone viral on social media telling illegal miners to attack any military or security officer who attempts to stop them from engaging in ‘galamsey.’
He urged them to initiate reprisal attacks on the military, promising them that he, the MCE, and the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, who was present at the meeting, would always protect them.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) subsequently issued a statement urging the public to desist from attacking soldiers, which would amount to a grave offence.
