Akufo-Addo, Bawumia must rather apologise, not Amin Adam

John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rejected Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam’s apology to Ghanaians for the hardship the government has brought on Ghanaians.

John Mahama says Dr. Amin Adam is not the best person to apologise to the citizenry since he was just brought in as Minister, and is not part of the engineers of the hardship.

However, he wants the president himself and his vice president to offer an apology to Ghanaians.
His comments follow an apology from the Finance Minister to Ghanaians over the hardship his government has put the citizenry through due to its unpopular policies, citing the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, addressing a town hall meeting in Accra on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, said the government needed the domestic debt exchange program to restructure its debts to secure the IMF facility.

He therefore asked Ghanaians to forgive the government for the hardship it has brought Ghanaians in implementing the policy.
“We needed to restructure our debts because it was one of the requirements by the IMF. We started with the domestic debt exchange programme, the domestic exchange programme was very successful, achieving 95 per cent participation. On this note, I would like to appeal to the people of this country to forgive us,” the Minister stated.

But John Mahama says the Head of the Economic Management Team, who is also the Vice President and flag bearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the President, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, should be the ones offering the apology.
Speaking on a campaign trail in its stronghold, the NDC flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, told residents of the Volta Region Tuesday, August 13, 2024, that Dr. Amin Adam, who was just made a Finance Minister, cannot be pushed to offer any apology.

“This Finance Minister they just brought yesterday is not part of those who have put us where we are. They said to him, ‘Okay, go and apologise’, it’s not his apology we want. He just came.

“Those who must apologise are 1. Jack Toronto (a nickname he has given to President Akufo-Addo), 2. the Head of the solid Economic Management Team, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.

Meanwhile, John Mahama has asked Ghanaians to vote out the NPP even if the President and his Vice president apologize to them.

He noted that the hardship they have subjected the citizenry to is enough for them to be kicked out of office.

“Even whatever apology they give, Ghanaians must send them back into opposition. We either change or do more of the same. We are dissatisfied with more of the same so definitely something must give, change must happen,” he charged
