Saume interchange which has been in the pipe line for a whilst, the president of the republic Nana Akufo Addo has cut-sod today ,Tuesday 17th october, 2022 to commence the construction of the 4-tier interchange.
According to Nana Akufo Addo ,the Suame interchange will be the first 4-tier interchange in Ashanti region and second in Ghana after commissioned Pokuasi interchange.
He says the completion of the interchange will curb perennial traffic from the city.
The contractor is going to use 30 months to complete the interchange.
The president also entreat the contractor to put in place a necessary traffic management measures to minimize any inconveniences that the construction will pose to commuters and pedestrians.
Ministry of roads and highways and Urban roads are mandated to monitor and supervise the project to ensure value for money until the day of completion of the interchange.
On 27 July 2022, Ghana’s parliament approved a total sum of €156.4 million for the design and construction of phase one of the Suame Interchange project.
Funding for the project is being provided through a loan agreement between the government of Ghana and the Deutche Bank. The loan agreement is in two parts – an amount of €135.4 million and an amount of €21 million bringing the total to €156.4 million.
The interchange will also spur the construction of other local roads within and around Suame-Magazine (a large industrial area dominated by metal engineering and vehicle repairs). The other roads to be developed include:
- Offinso Road (N10) 3 kilometres, Suame roundabout-Abusuakuruwa, Western Bypass – 2 kilometres.
- Suame Roundabout-Sofoline Interchange, Mampong Road South (N10) – 1.2 kilometres.
- Suame Roundabout-Kejetia, Eastern Bypass – 1.4 kilometres.
- Suame Roundabout-New Tafo Road and Mampong Road North (IR4) – 1.9 kilometres.
- Suame Roundabout-Magazine New Road.
The minister of roads and highways Hon. Kwasi Amaoako assured the people of Ashanti region that the project will not be stalled till completion.
He added, the project was awarded to Ghanaian contractor and local materials will be used.
