The Asantehe, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, has expressed worry about the country`s over-dependence on imported goods including staples to feed the people at the expense of the vast plantations available for the production of local food.
He said maximising local farming would help reduce the expensive importation of food crops to save the cedi.
At a ceremony in manhyia palace to officially introduce the 2022 national best farmer, Nana Sarpong Serebour to Asantehe, he urged the youth to venture into farming.
Asantehene, was not happy about the country`s inability to produce some essential crops locally, as the youth always hunt for white-collar jobs rather than pursuing farming to boost the economy.
A delegation from the Juaben Traditional area in Ashanti region , including the 2022 national best farmer, Nana Sarpong Serebour, son of the paramount chief of Juaben were in the palace to inform Asantehene about the victory.
Meanwhile ,Nana Sarpong Serebour who was adjudged the 2022 national best farmer at the 38th farmers` day event at Koforidua last week for his extensive production in both mixed crop and livestock farming.
With the current technological advancements in farming, the 43 year old mechanical engineer touched on his interest in farming and encouraged the youth to venture into farming.
