Traders at the Kejetia Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region are set to receive 2,000 prepaid metres from the Electricity Company of Ghana, (ECG).

This comes after the traders requested for individual meters at the market.

The traders have on several occasions clashed with the management of the Kejetia market over the decision to use one bulk meter for the over seven thousand (7000) shops in the market.

Traders over the years complained bitterly that, they pay exorbitant electricity bills due to the failure of the management of the facility to provide separate meters for shops within the market.

Following the resistance, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon Dan Botwe met the traders in early January pledged to resolve the issue.

Speaking to uniquenewsgh, the President of Federation of Kejetia Traders Association Nana Kwasi Prempeh says plans are far advance to install separate meters for traders at the facility.

He revealed that the 2,000 prepaid meters which was confirmed by the Ashanti regional electricity director will be  installed in phases till the entire edifice received separate meters.

Confirming the news to uniquenewsgh ,he says the executives including the entire traders are glad to received such a news waited for some many years after the completion of the project.

Nana Kwasi Prempeh appreciated the effective effort by the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon Dan Botwe to get them the separate meters.

“These meters will help us minimize the high cost of electricity tariff which we incurred some years now”.
