The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has chastised chiefs who have allowed illegal miners to destroy their lands and polluted water bodies.
Address the Kumasi Traditional Council on Friday, the Asantehene said, chiefs cannot exempt themselves from the blame because some of them are directly benefiting from illegal mining also known as galamsey.
For almost some time now chiefs have been bashed for involving in galamsey activities in the country especially Ashanti region which led in polluting water bodies and destruction of virgin vegetation.
With regards to that alot of calls on all and sundry, particularly local authorities (chiefs) to play an active part in ending the canker once and fro all.
Asantehene Otumfuo was speaking at the Kumasi Tradional Council revealed ,some of his chiefs condone with the illegal miners to execute the activities for exchange of Gold and physical cash, therefore such chiefs should be blamed.
He also added,he will continue engage the government in the fight against the illegal Mining impasse.
“You knew that there is galamsey activities ongoing at your traditional area which polluting water bodies and destroying forest reserve,have you ever informed me or took an action against it before”,Otumfuo fumes.
