Construction work on the 120-bed facility new Fomena Government Hospital in Adansi North District in the Ashanti Region has been delayed due to a lack of funds.
The facility initiated by the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in 2014 was meant to augment existing health facilities in the district and consequently increase access to quality health care.
The project is part of a plan to build six district hospitals in the country at a total cost of $175 million.
The contract for the project, which was for five years, has been delayed due to a lack of funds.
The project has received many agitations and protests from residents and opinion leaders in the area due to the delay. A few years ago, there were several concerns about this particular project.
Government officials have visited the place on several occasions due to the public outcry on the delay.
A visit to the project saw the construction firm fixing all machines, and equipment at various wards, theatres and other places.
Staff accommodation was also completed together with the mortuary and other facilities.
The delay in the opening facility for the intake of patients has thus affected its utility bills marginally, as it still pays bills for the air_ conditioning among others.

What is left now is for the officials from the Ministry of Health to certify what the construction firm for handing over.

The site manager, peter Newman, explained that they are waiting for the officials from the ministry of health to certify what they have done.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, was happy about the latest development on the project.
