The Chief of Okyerekrom in the Akrofuom district, Ashanti region ,Nana Adyei Amoako Gyampa II has expressed worried about how an abandoned pit dug by Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi for their mining activities.
According to the chief, AGA has turned a deaf ear after the pit collapsed in 2012 posing threat on inhabitants who have their farm lands around the pit.
The abandoned mining pit which had claimed 10 lives since 2012 is a worry situation to the community.
Nana Amoako Gyampa ll reiterated that AGA has deliberately blacklisted the community from enjoying its community trust fund initiated by the mining firm to support community within the mining enclave.
“I want to ask a question if AGA came here to do mining or galamsey,the government must make it clear to us,” Nana Amoako Gyampa disclosed.
Addressing the press conference at Okyerekrom, the chief Nana Amoako has given a two-week ultimatum for AngloGold Ashanti to reclaim the pit or face their wrath.
Meanwhile,residents who’s relatives have been so far lost their lives through the pit shared their ordeal with the uniquenewsgh.com
